Anticipates the defeat of the 'Advanced Liberal', Edwin Chadwick, in the Kilmarnock Burghs election. The 'Leaguers wipe their eyes' (the Reform League, who backed Chadwick against the more moderate incumbent, Bouverie) as they await the opposing forces. The contest is imagined as a military engagement, with a refrain of 'Tramp, tramp, tramp, for Bouv'rie's coming'.
