This poem commends the candidate Sir John Maxwell, junior to the people of Lanarkshire.  We are told that he is one who will 'thunder for Reform'.  The poem also attacks Charles Douglas, his anti-Reform opponent who had held the seat since 1830.  A note is included with the poem: 'Strathaven, 16th May, 1831', presumably where and when the poem was written.
