Like another poem in this issue of The Glasgow Chronicle, this poem commends the pro-reform candidate Sir John Maxwell to the electorate. He is portrayed as the guardian of Scotia's joys and the bearer of freedom's flag, who makes tyrants tremble. A note is included with the poem: 'Flemington, 19th May, 1831', presumably where and when the poem was written.
