This poem is attributed to the Tyne Mercury, a Newcastle newspaper. The speaker of this poem wishes a 'plague upon this wild Reform', but the poem develops into a satire when we learn that the speaker is wealthy - all of his family have a pension, while he has an office near Whitehall and eats a 'a slice of turkey pullet' in St James's Square. The speaker is clearly protectionist, and is sick of hearing about 'the Bill, the whole Bill / And nothing but the Bill'.
