This poem is attributed to The New North Briton, an Edinburgh newspaper. In the poem, a former MP addresses 'Magistrates / Provost and Bailies, and Councillors bland' in a bid to get them to support his cousin. The speaker harangues 'the infernal Reformers' and hopes that 'Tory Aristocrats' malison [...] May blight all the schemes of the Grey-headed Ministry', a very clear reference to the Prime Minister, Earl Grey.
