This unsigned poem is another Airdrie Advertiser poem (see also 'Out into the Sunlight') which is concerned with Reform in 1866-7 without explicitly referencing it. Its political bent is clear from the lines 'What is noble? That which places/ Truth in the enfranchised will', and from the conclusion that the truly 'noble' man will support 'Freedom and the cause of men'. The poem celebrates the nobility of industrial labour and urges self-improvement.
