This poem is addressed to the Mearns-shire farmers, and the speaker tells them not to 'vote in slaverie'. The poem asks the farmers to give their vote to Thomas Burnett, one of the Liberal candidates for the Kincardineshire seat; they are also implored to 'spurn' the 'enemie' or reform (the Tories). The poem finishes with the line 'Reform shall bear the gree'.
