This poem commemorates a professor at Edinburgh University, 'Jimmie', but it is not clear who this refers to.  He was originally from Shetland and appears to have been a professor of medicine.  Although the poem is not a campaigning poem, the suffragettes are referenced: the speaker imagines a time when students will have to distinguish the skulls of 'women from Suffragettes'.
