This poem has a set tune, and its title is:
Paddle Your Own Canoe.

A poem responding to the Second Reform Bill, this complains that although technically more men have been given the vote, they are not free to vote as they please because of the influence of 'three dreadful Screws' - landlords, employers, and customers. 'Vote we cannot, without the ballot', the author concludes, in favour of secret ballots. The poem appeared in the 'Original Poetry' column of the newspaper, which published few other explicitly political poems.
