The winning verses from a competition held by Sunday Talk, to produce a trilogy on 'What the Commons Say', 'What the Peers Say', and 'What the People Say'. The Scotsman only published a few verses from each. The first of the trilogy has the Commons addressing the Lords, saying that the latter can no longer stop them from expressing the voice and desires of the people; the second has the Lords refusing to yield to the Commons; the third has the people asserting that the final victory will be theirs.  The prize earned James Strang of Alexandria 10 guineas; Thomas Bayne of Helensburgh was the adjudicator of the post.
