This poem concerns Thomas Atkinson, who was a stationer/bookseller with a shop in Glasgow, near the Tron Kirk. He stood unsuccessfully for election in the Stirling Burghs in 1832; the poem notes caustically that 'He wanted a place his nonsense to squeak, / But favour in Glasgow was fashious to seek', requiring 'our Radical' to try his luck 'Awa' in the North, near Airthrey Well'.
