This poem, evoking the legacy of Burns's poem of the same name, is one of many written during the Paisley general election of 1868. (The poem is dated - by hand - Nov. 4, 1868.) The Colonel referred to is Campbell of Blythswood, the Tory candidate; Kintrea is the radical candidate; and Crum (Crum Ewing) the official Liberal candidate. The poem supports the (ultimately unsuccessful) Tory candidate.
