Title page notes that the poem is 'Dedicated to our Scottish Representatives in Parliament'. This chapbook was priced at a penny. The poet takes issues with parliamentarians who, having been elected to promote retrenchment and reform had agreed to additional finances for royal ceremonial and pensions. This is one of the few republican poems that have survived and is notable as at the time of its publication (187), just two years after the extension of the franchise, it is clear that more radical wishes were not being addressed.
